NSW EV Destination Charging Grants.

The New South Wales (NSW) government has recently introduced Destination Charging Grants as part of their commitment to promote the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and increase the availability of charging infrastructure in the state. The grants are aimed at businesses, local councils, and other organisations providing public access to EV charging stations.

The grants will fund the following for up to 4 EV chargers per site:

  • 75% towards the cost of an eligible 7 kW and/or 22 kW electric vehicle charger(s)
  • 75% towards the cost of installation (capped at $3,000 per charging port)
  • 75% towards the first year of an eligible annual EV charger software subscription.

What are Destination Charging Grants?

Destination Charging Grants are the incentives the NSW government provides to eligible businesses and organisations installing EV charging stations in public areas. The grants are intended to support the development of a robust and reliable charging infrastructure network throughout the state, particularly in regional and rural areas where EV adoption has been slower.

Who can apply for Destination Charging Grants?

The Destination Charging Grants are available to many organisations that provide public access to charging stations. This includes:

  • Businesses such as hotels, shopping centres, and tourist attractions
  • Local councils
  • Community organisations
  • Other non-government organisations

Applicants must have an Australian Business Number (ABN) or an Australian Company Number (ACN) and demonstrate that the proposed charging station will be in a public area accessible to EV drivers.

To be eligible, you must be:

  • located in an eligible regional NSW local government area (LGA)
  • an approved destination type as listed in the guidelines
  • be listed on the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) https://oauth.atdw-online.com.au/register-business
  • have no more than 4 existing EV charging ports installed.

What are the benefits of Destination Charging Grants?

The Destination Charging Grants provide several benefits to organisations that install EV charging stations. These include:

  1. Attracting EV Drivers: By providing EV charging stations, organisations can attract EV drivers who are looking for convenient and reliable charging options. This can lead to increased business and foot traffic.
  2. Supporting Sustainability Goals: Installing EV charging stations demonstrates an organisation’s commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions. This can help attract environmentally-conscious customers and stakeholders.
  3. Financial Incentives: The Destination Charging Grants provide a significant financial incentive for organisations to install EV charging stations, reducing the upfront costs of purchasing and installing the equipment.
  4. Improving Local Infrastructure: The grants support the development of a robust and reliable charging infrastructure network, particularly in regional and rural areas where EV adoption has been slower. This can help to improve local infrastructure and support economic development.

How to apply for Destination Charging Grants.

To apply for Destination Charging Grants, organisations must complete an online application form, provide a quote from an accredited EV charging equipment supplier, and demonstrate that the proposed charging station will be in a public area accessible to EV drivers.

Applications are assessed on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to available funding.
